Schaeffer Galleries records, 1925-1985.

Records cover portions of the Berlin gallery operation from 1925-1939, and the New York gallery from 1939-1980 through correspondence (bulk 1950s-1985); client files (from the 1930s); inventory sheets and indices; photographs of art with records of sale, expertise and provenance papers; photograph albums and catalogs documenting gallery exhibitions, and albums documenting the Le Roy M. Backus collection of drawings. An additional 17 lin.ft. of material was received by the repository 2001 and 2002, but is not yet cataloged. Papers include ledgers with records of purchases, research notes, auction catalogues and pamphlets, photographs and transparencies, letters of expertise, and business documents concerning gallery business in Europe following WW II.
